Relative density / density

May be measured using a hydrometer or by using a pyknometer (weighing bottle).

Method used BS 718
Units Relative density - a simple ratio comparing the weight of oil to the weight of water.

Density - g/ml.
Significance of result
The density may be used to convert mass to volume, giving invaluable information for packing operations.
Notes Relative density is closely related to specific gravity and is usually quoted at 15.5°C (60°F). The test temperature must be quoted.
